News: The new data is available for free download or for purchase on CDROM. New for 2008 is the availability of a file geodatabase with all the layers in the proprietary ESRI gdb format. Though large (372MB), it is an excellent choice for those with access to the ESRI ArcView product or any other product which recognizes the gdb format. The file geodatabase is included with the CDROM as well as being available on our "Free Downloads" page.

08/07/08--01:02: Senior Citizen and Disabled Homeowner Property Tax Relief - 2008 (chan 1374448)

News: In 2007, Texas voters approved Proposition 1 - a constitutional amendment providing property tax relief to elderly and disabled homeowners. Planning for the approval of the constitutional amendment, legislators approved House Bill (HB) 5. HB 5 provided tax relief to senior citizens and disabled persons by ensuring school tax ceilings were reduced proportionally to reflect school tax rate reductions granted to all other property owners. During September 2007, the school tax ceiling amounts were recomputed and used in the 2007 property tax billing. Elderly and disabled taxpayers can expect the same school tax ceiling amount to be used in the 2008 property tax billing unless they have made improvements in their home (other than normal repairs/maintenance) or they have moved to a new home. 07/16/09--06:00: New Homestead Exemption for Disabled Veterans (chan 1374448)

News: The 2009 Legislative session recently passed HB 3613 which provides for a new 100% exemption for veterans who qualify. First, the veteran must receive 100 percent disability compensation from the VA due to the veteran's service connected disability. Second, the veteran must have a rating of 100 percent disabled or of individual unemployability from the VA or the veteran's service branch. If you are a disabled veteran who meets these qualifications, you must apply for the exemption using the form provided by the State Comptroller's office. The exemption is effective for the current 2009 tax year. (07/16/2009)

10/09/09--10:00: Applicants Sought for Appraisal Review Board Service - October 9, 2009 (chan 1374448)

Web page: Fort Worth—The Tarrant Appraisal Review Board (ARB) is accepting applications from residents interested in service on the board beginning in January 2010. The review board hears property owner protests about appraised value, exemption denials, and other appraisal district related matters. ARB members sit in panels of three to conduct protest hearings, most of which are during the summer and fall months. Service on the review board does not constitute a full-time job, but while conducting hearings, members are paid $150 per day ...
